How to Throw the Best 4th of July Bash
There’s not a day Americans look forward to more than Independence Day. It’s an excuse to let our patriotism spill over in exuberance with cook outs and celebrations no other country can scoff at, at least for 24 hours. To truly take advantage of the day our forefathers fought for, here are a few tips for throwing the ultimate 4th of July party:
Know Your Guests
When you start planning your get together, make sure you know your audience. If you’re inviting over a bunch of families, then put out water guns, toys, and lemonade. No kids? Then you can substitute in spirited drinks instead and tell everyone to come later so the party can last longer. Speaking of, don’t forget to string up some lights so the party can last well into the night.
Barbecue Like a Master
It’s not a summer bash without barbecue. Now in true American fashion, that doesn’t just mean something slathered in barbecue sauce and thrown on the grill. Get creative and surprise your guests with grilled fruits, vegetables, and even hearty breads seared over the fire. You’ll have fewer dishes to wash when you flame broil your fare!
Go Full on Patriotic
George Washington didn’t cross the Potomac for you to invite some people over for the same type of party you’d throw in September. Celebrate all that is America and turn up the dial on the patriotism. As mentioned above, this is the one day other countries can’t roll their eyes when we say our homeland is the best, so have fun with it. Hang up flags, put others out for guests to wave, decorate everything in red, white, & blue, and if you don’t end the day playing Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to Be an American” only to start singing it at the top of your lungs, then you did the entire day wrong.
One Word: FIREWORKS!
We pass it off as trying to recreate the night “The Star Spangled Banner” was written, but the truth is we just like to set stuff on fire and watch it go boom—it’s extremely American. So make sure even if it’s just some sparklers and poppers that you give your guest some sort of pyrotechnics. But if we’re being honest, to do a Fourth of July Bash right you need to bring out the big guns. This is one of the few nights of the year you have a socially acceptable reason to light up the night sky, so do it. You’ll feel closer to our forefathers with every firework you set off.
It’s a day meant for celebration and one that should be adequately celebrated. Make it a good one with a few of these tips and you and your friends will be on your way to a memorable event you’ll want to recreate each and every year.
